Long Island Newborn Photographer

Gallery titles-newbornNewborn sessions are one of my favorite type of sessions to photograph. I love capturing the newness of the baby as well as the special bond between the family and their new life. I recommend booking your newborn session as soon as you know you want me to photograph your baby so you are on my calendar.

If you are just finding me after your baby was born, no worries. Because babies are not born on a predictable schedule, I often have room for last minute newborn sessions. Newborn sessions are typically done between 4  and 14 days old, but again, if you haven’t booked a session and your baby is over 14 days, please contact me so that we can discuss session and posing options for older newborns. Every newborn is different and I have had sessions where a 4 week old curled up and slept just like a 4 day old. Sessions last approximately 2-3 hours unless otherwise stated in the pricing info.

For newborn sessions, everything is warm and cozy. This makes for smoother session flow and happier, sleepier baby.  All props and blankets matching the style and aesthetic in my portfolio are provided so you do not need to bring anything to your session.  If you have a few special items or ideas, just let me know so we can work them into your session. I offer several types of newborn sessions to fit your needs and budget. Click here to view our  Newborn Collections.

A little about my newborn session process.

Being a newborn photographer on Long Island is one of the best jobs around.  I have the opportunity to meet so many wonderful new families and watch them grow up before my lens. Newborn sessions are one of my favorite types of sessions to photograph. I love capturing the newness of the baby as well as the special bond between the family and their new life.

When clients contact me excitedly about booking their newborn session with me, I am just as excited with them. Being a mother of 3, it brings me back to those first days. When you book your session, we will chat about what YOU want your session to be like.  The colors, the style, where you want to hang your images in your home so that you can enjoy them every day to remind you of how tiny your newborn once was.

Once your baby is born, you will contact me to book your actual session time. Upon arrival, it is warm and cozy for baby and we have everything we need for your session. Here you will relax and unwind while I pose your baby in all the adorable props we chose for him or her. If you like (and I recommend you do), you will also pose with your new baby for some sweet images you can only capture once. If you have older children, we will also capture their special bond with their new little sibling.

It is one thing to witness the whole session, but this is the first look at the finished image that will soon hang in your home. Your full edited gallery will be available in just a few weeks and you can begin designing your birth announcements and planning your photo wall displays.

When to book your newborn session:

You should book your session as soon as you know you want me to capture your babies first portraits. Most clients book after their first trimester, but you can certainly book sooner.

The Studio and Newborn Props:

I have all of the props and accessories we need for your session. I have many antique baskets and buckets as well as wraps, fabrics, headbands and hats. All of the props I use are carefully chosen so that they photograph just right. I use natural fiber knit fabrics and hats. I find these photograph nicer, fit better and are softer for a newborn. When you arrive, the studio will cozy and warm for baby. I will have already hand-selected and set up the blankets, props and accessories for your session based on our pre-session consultation. This ensures we have the most time possible with your sleepy baby. You are welcome to bring items to work into the session that are special to you, but it is not required. I have water and snacks for you to enjoy while you sit back and watch your session. Feel free to also take a nap…many new parents do.

Contact me if you would like to chat more about my sessions, pricing packages, styling, booking or anything!

I recommend that you book your session as soon as you decide that you want me to photograph you and your new baby. Maternity sessions are done between 30-36 weeks and newborns are typically photographed within their first 2 weeks of life. FAQ:

How soon should I book my maternity and newborn sessions?

I recommend that you book your session as soon as you decide that you want me to photograph you and your new baby. Maternity sessions are done between 30-36 weeks and newborns are typically photographed within their first 2 weeks of life. I only take on a certain number of sessions due to the unpredictability of newborn arrivals.

Do you offer a discount if I book both a maternity and a newborn session with you?

Yes, I do! I offer up to $50 off your newborn session when you also do a maternity session with me.

If my baby is already born, can we still book you for our session?

Of course! Although it is best to be set up on my calendar prior to baby’s arrival, I often have room for last minute newborns. Babies are rarely born on time and may arrive earlier or later than due dates, leaving extra room in my schedule.

What if my baby is older than 2 weeks old?

Although babies become more and more alert and awake as the weeks go on, I have photographed 6-8 week old babies with success. Posing may not be as easy with an older newborn, but I assure you, we can still capture beautiful images of your little one. We can always do a “newborn style” session for your older baby where they are wrapped, but not sleeping. I recommend that you email me so we can discuss options for your session. If you missed the squishy sleepy newborn stage, you definitely don’t want to pass this stage by.

Do you offer a “Baby Plan” or a “Grow with Me” plan?

Yes, I do. I offer both a mini-session and a full session plan which include Newborn, 6 month/sitter and One Year/Cake Smash sessions. Contact me here for details. You can even add additional milestone sessions at 3 months and 9 months.

What clients are saying:

When I found out that I was pregnant one of the things that I was most looking forward to was newborn pictures. Several of my friends had used Christine Melissa and their pictures were always so beautiful – there was never a question in my mind that when the time came I would use her as well. It goes without saying that the pictures of my son are adorable. She captured so many great shots of him that it was difficult for me to choose which ones I wanted to print out and frame! But, to be honest, having seen photos of my friends pictures taken by Christine I knew going into the shoot that I’d fall in love with the final product. What I didn’t realize was the extreme attention to detail and super personalized level of service that I would receive during our shoot. I was nervous for the shoot, because my son was a fussy newborn and I just didn’t see how I could get him to sit still long enough for pictures. Well, let me tell you, Christine takes care of EVERYTHING. I’m not sure how, but for several hours during the shoot she was able to keep my typical fussy baby asleep, warm, and quiet. She had infinite patience with my little one and she really has a soothing demeanor that just seemed to calm my son. He looks like a peaceful little peanut in all of the pictures. Having this level of service was so much more than just “taking pictures” – the whole experience from start to finish was really a pleasure. I plan on using Christine again for my son’s milestone pictures when they arise – I can’t imagine using anyone else. ~Heather newborn boy in antique metal egg basket with blue blanket on rustic wood plank floor
